Intelligent Apron
Airport ramp tower software at ADB SAFEGATE. I work across frontend, backend, Kubernetes deployment, and performance. The platform’s current architecture was created and implemented under my leadership.
I’m Jarred Utt, a software engineer and team lead based in Malmö, Sweden. I write code, lead teams, and build software for the people keeping airports moving.

01 / SELECTED WORK
Airport ramp tower software at ADB SAFEGATE. I work across frontend, backend, Kubernetes deployment, and performance. The platform’s current architecture was created and implemented under my leadership.
A personal project for a very personal occasion: building the website for my own wedding.
02 / EXPERIENCE
At ADB SAFEGATE, I helped create the company’s first productized web application, used in the ramp towers of some of the world’s busiest airports. My work has grown from delivering systems on the ground to leading the teams and architecture behind them.
The current Intelligent Apron architecture was created and implemented under my leadership. I’ve stayed hands-on across features and the full stack: frontend, backend, deployment, Kubernetes, and performance.
I own technical delivery of the Apron Application software, from planning and hands-on development through release and support. I coordinate work across teams, unblock dependencies, and guide technical decisions and engineering standards.
Working closely with Product and QA, I balance scope and priorities, align on test strategy and release readiness, and drive critical fixes based on customer impact.
I was responsible for the Intelligent Apron platform’s technical architecture while developing frontend and backend services. I mentored development teams across Europe and worked with architecture, R&D, QA, and Sales to deliver our products.
I led up to seven developers across Europe, building the next generation of apron control software with Angular, NestJS, Docker, and Kubernetes. I also maintained Azure CI/CD pipelines and worked with Product Management to turn market needs into technical work.
I worked directly with airport operations teams to deliver apron control systems for some of North America’s largest airports. I documented, configured, and validated customer implementations and advised service, sales, project management, and engineering teams on project delivery.
03 / SHARING WHAT I LEARN
JSNATION · 2024
Architecture choices and lessons from bringing microfrontends into aviation software.
JSNATION US · 2024
A look at the JavaScript technologies behind responsive, event-driven applications.
NG POLAND · 2023
A lightning talk with Rafał Brzoska on bringing six aviation products from two codebases into a shared solution using Nx and Module Federation.
04 / A LITTLE FURTHER FROM HOME
I moved from the US to Malmö after a reorganization during COVID opened up an opportunity in our Swedish office. The plan was to stay for two years. Six and a half years later, I’m still here.
Travel is part of my life, for work and for myself. Getting to know new cultures and seeing unfamiliar places helps me grow as a person and changes how I approach my work.
05 / OUTSIDE WORK
I play baseball in Sweden and coach the Malmö Pilots, where I’m also a board member. I serve on the board of the Danish Baseball Federation too, helping grow the game and leagues on both sides of the Øresund.
I play guitar, make electronic music, and DJ. Music is another way for me to experiment and make something of my own.
You’ll find me playing Dota 2 or reading fantasy. The Wheel of Time and The Stormlight Archive are favorites.
I enjoy making software outside work too, including building the website for my own wedding.
